The Algoma women’s and men’s soccer teams went on the road for the first time in the young Ontario University Athletics (OUA) season over the weekend.
The two teams returned home with one win in four games against the University of Windsor Lancers at Alumni Field in Windsor.
The Algoma women’s team picked up a split while the Algoma men dropped both games against the Lancers.
On Saturday, the Algoma women fell behind 3-0 in the first half in a 5-0 loss to the Lancers.
Jessica Paglia had a pair of goals for the Lancers, both in the first half, while Grace Melick had the other Windsor goal in the opening half.
Tiffany Davies and Ancika Quimbly had the other goals for the Lancers.
The Algoma women rebounded on Sunday for a 4-1 win to cap the weekend.
Kate Nippard paced Algoma with three goals in Sunday’s win.
Maria Demelo had the other goal for Algoma.
Sophia Ferrazo had the lone goal for the Lancers on Sunday.
The Algoma men’s team dropped both games against the Lancers on the weekend.
In Sunday’s contest, Windsor cruised to a 6-0 win over the Algoma men.
Ard Dieker scored three times for Windsor while Tanner Page chipped in with a pair of goals.
Thomas Saba also scored for Windsor.
On Saturday, the Algoma men dropped a 4-0 decision.
Dieker, Page, Jonathan Agapito, and Bryce Phillips completed the Lancer scoring on Saturday.
The Algoma women will take a 1-3-0 record into action next weekend at home while the men fell to 0-4-0.
Both teams are in action for a pair of doubleheaders against the University of Waterloo Warrior at Superior Heights. Kickoff on both days is 1 p.m. for the women and 3 p.m. for the men at Superior Heights.
