AUC women advance to consolation final

************************** JESSICA KING NAMED TO GEORGIAN COLLEGE BBALL CLASSIC TOURNEY ALL STAR TEAM The Algoma U Women's basketball team made it to the consolation final of the Georgian College basketball tournament this past weekend against George Brown College.

They had a commanding lead at the half but ended up losing the game 49 to 47. At the half the score was 34 to 19 in favour of Algoma U. Top scorers for Algoma were Jessica King with 18 points and Miranda Chaimbrone who had 3 three pointers with 9 points.

In the second half Algoma U still had the lead up until late in the game with the score of 46 to 40. George Brown pulled ahead in the final minutes and cinched the eventual win of 49 to 47. Top scorers for the game for Algoma was Jessica King with 22 points and Miranda Chaimbrone with 11 points.

It should be noted that Miranda Chaimbrone played very few minutes in the second half due to illness. In their other games of the tournament, they defeated Georgian College with a score of 64 to 37 and Sainte Foy College 75 to 52.

Top scorers for Algoma U in the Georgian College game were Jessica King with 20 points, Melissa Stumpo with 11 points and Alicia Miller with 9 points. Top scorers for Algoma in the Sainte Foy game were Jessica King with 19 points, Kristen Conway with 13 points and Lara Stilin with 9 points.

It should be noted that Sainte Foy College won the tournament in a win over Niagara College in the final.

Jessica King was named to the tournament All-Star team.

The Lady Thunderbirds are in action this upcoming weekend in the Loyalist College basketball tournament in Belleville.
