Algoma University College Women's and Men's Basketball Teams Host Niagara College this Friday Both the Algoma University College Women's and Men's Basketball teams will be in action this Friday night as they host the visiting Niagara College Knights.

The Algoma U Women are on a roll as they beat Redeemer University College in their last regular season OCAA game and just claimed the silver medal at the 6th annual Redeemer University College Red and White Roundball Tournament over this past weekend.

The Men's team had a close loss against Niagara College a couple of weeks ago 70-60. Both games are being played at Korah Collegiate this Friday with the women's game tipping off at 7:00 pm and the men's game starting at 9 pm.

*** ALGOMA THUNDERBIRD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM FINISHES 2nd IN OCAA TOURNAMENT This past weekend the Women's Thunderbird Basketball team played in the Redeemer University College 6th Annual Red & White Tournament in Ancaster, Ontario and finished in second place.

This tournament featured six teams including Redeemer University College, U of T Mississauga, George Brown, Sheridan and Loyalist College.

During the round robin play, Algoma University College won a game and lost a game. In the win they defeated Loyalist College 52-38 with Melissa Stumpo and Jenn Muio as top scorers with 11 and seven points, respectively.

In the loss they were beaten by Redeemer University College in a close game 48-41 with Jessica King and Melissa Stumpo scoring eight and seven points, respectively.

Their record put the Thunderbirds into the second semi-final game against Loyalist College. They won this game 61-31. Top scorers in this game were Jessica King and Roberta Reid with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Having only a 30 minute rest going into the final against Sheridan College the Thunderbirds lost 70-31. Melissa Stumpo and Jenn Muio scored six points each.

The Algoma Thunderbird women and the men's basketball teams play Niagara College this Friday at 7 and 9 pm, respectively, at Korah Collegiate.
