The Soo Cambrian Mazda Black Sox inched closer to defending their Ontario Baseball Association crown on Saturday with a pair of victories.

The victories send the Sox into the championship round where they will have to be beaten twice.

On Saturday morning, the Sox defeated the Newmarket Hawks 5-3. Kyle Sayers, Bryce Grimard, and J.J. Bergamin combined to hold the Hawks to just one earned run on the night. Sayers picked up the victory while Bergamin picked up the save.

Sayers had a solid night offensively with a pair of singles while also knocking in a run. Kyle Diotte and Jesse Legault each had a triple for the Sox while Joey Lesage hit a two-run single.

In their second game, the Sox defeated the Kingston Braves 1-0 in eight innings to head into Sunday as the tournament's only undefeated team. Bergamin went the distance on the mound for the Sox striking out 14 Braves hitters while only giving up one hit and not giving up a walk in eight innings.

Legault was the hero as he drove a 2-0 pitch to left field, scoring Diotte from second after Diotte had doubled earlier in the inning.

Other scores from Saturday's action saw Kingston eliminate Guelph by defeating them 9-3. The Sudbury entry was also eliminated early in the day when they dropped a 5-2 decision at the hands of London Tecumseh.

The other night game saw London and Kingston square off. At the time of writing, no score had been reported. The loser of that game would be eliminated while the winner would move on to face the Sox on Sunday for the OBA Midget A title.

In the double elimination tournament, the London-Kingston winner would have to beat the Sox twice on Sunday to win the title.
