Braves take key match over Korah

In a game with serious playoff implications for both teams, the Bawating Braves scored three touchdowns in a 10 minute span in the second half to roll to a 27-13 win over the Korah Colts on Thursday night at Rocky DiPietro Field.

The Braves now control their High School Football League playoff destiny by improving to 2-1 on the season while the Colts fall to 0-3.

Joe Storozuk hauled in touchdown passes of four and 12 yards from brother Mike Storozuk while Dan Vaz ran in another from 39 yards out as the Braves broke a 7-7 halftime tie and built an insurmountable 27-7 lead.

Vaz, who led the Braves offense with 134 yards rushing on 23 carries, opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 66 yard punt return while Brad Beatty added two converts and a single off a missed field goal.

Christian Johnson scored both Colts touchdowns on passes of 17 and 12 yards from quarterback Kyle Diotte. Daniel Ferris added a convert.

Defensively, Doug Watt had a standout performance for the Braves with 5.5 tackles, an 80 yard return on a fumble recovery, an interception and a blocked kick. Zach Clement added 9.5 tackles while Bill Stone recorded five tackles and blocked a kick.

Mike Burmaster paced the Colts rushing attack with 55 yards on eight carries while Clint Cudmore added 50 yards on nine attempts. Diotte completed nine of 21 passes for 80 yards including four to Johnson for 46 yards.

On defense, Luke Critchley led the Colts with eight tackles and a sack while Riley King recovered a fumble and added six tackles. Jordan Murtonen recorded an interception.

Week three action continues on Friday as the St. Basil Saints meet the St. Mary's Knights at 7 p.m. at Rocky DiPietro Field. On Saturday, White Pines tackles Sir James Dunn at 1 p.m.

In junior division play on Thursday afternoon, Jordan Lang scored a touchdown to power the Colts past the Braves 7-6. Aaron Rooley replied with a touchdown for Bawating.

On Friday at 4:15 p.m., St. Mary's visits St. Basil while White Pines visits Sir James Dunn on Saturday at 10 a.m.
