CASS off to NOSSA volleyball championships

The Central Algoma Secondary School boys volleyball teams competed in the North Shore playoffs for their chance to qualify for the NOSSA Championships. In senior, the CASS team lost to Manitoulin S.S.

The Central Algoma Secondary School boys volleyball teams competed in the North Shore playoffs for their chance to qualify for the NOSSA Championships.

In senior, the CASS team lost to Manitoulin S.S. in the Championship 25-19 and 25-20 at Manitoulin. CASS will now host the NOSSA “AA” Championships Nov. 18.

The Junior team hosted the NSSSA Championship and lost to Espanola in the finals 25-23, 24-26, 14-16. The juniors will now travel to Sudbury to compete in the NOSSA “A” Championship Nov. 17 & 18.

The Girls Basketball playoffs have been set and CASS will host the semi final against W.C. Eaket Nov. 14. Seniors play at noon and the juniors at 1:30 p.m.

*** TUESDAY:

The Central Algoma Secondary School girls basketball teams travelled to Elliot Lake to conclude regular season play and battle for first place.

In senior, the Elliot Lake Atoms defeated CASS 38-31 to grab first place. Amanda Hollingsworth and Tina Bucknell had 10 points each for CASS. Felicia Mazardli had 16 points for Elliot Lake.

The junior Huskies defeated Elliot Lake 43-31 and will therefore be in first place and host the semi-final and finals. Deanna Hagan with 15 points and Marabeth Mills with 10 led the Huskies.

*** LAST WEEK:

The girls basketball teams travelled to Manitoulin Secondary School in NSSSA league play.

The senior girls improved to 6 wins and 1 loss on the season with a 29-5 victory over the Mustangs. Amanda Hollingsworth with 14 points led the Huskies while Blair McClelland chipped in with 6.

The junior Huskies improved to 5 wins and 2 losses with a 32-18 win over the host Mustangs. Marabeth Mills lead all scorers with 12 points while Carissa Debassige had 8 for Manitoulin.

The girls also hosted the W.C. Eaket Royals in NSSSA league play.

The CASS Senior Girls lost their first game of the season 31-28. The Huskies lead 18-13 at the half but with less than 2 seconds to play and the game tied at 28, Aly McDeugall hit the front end of a one and one to win the game for the Royals. Aly had 16 points for the Royals while Amanda Hollingsworth and Tiana Bucknell had 11 and 8 points each for CASS.

The junior team lost their second game of the season 30-22 to the Royals. Tegan Wiebe had 17 points for Eaket while Marabeth Mills and Hayley Oikari had 6 each for CASS.
