Swimmer Kalen Critchley Medals For SSMAC

Eighteen members of the Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club traveled over the weekend to compete in the Valley East Waves Invitational Swim meet, outside of Sudbury. The team as a whole returned with very impressive results.

Leading the way was ten-year old Kalen Critchley, achieving gold medals in the 100-metre freestyle and the 100-metre individual medley events. Chritchley also placed second in the 50-metre backstroke and 50-metre butterfly, and earned bronze in the 100-metre backstroke.

Chenoa Naylor, age 10, placed first in the 50-metre backstroke, second in the 100-metre freestyle, and bronze in the 100-metre individual medley event. Naylor had three other fourth place finishes.

Sara Matthews, 10, captured gold in the 50-metre butterfly and placed third in two other races. Spencer Bordin, age 9, found top spot in the 50-metre backstroke event, and earned a silver and a bronze.

Ten-year old Tyler Smith won silver medals in the 50-metre freestyle and the 50-metre backstroke. Smith placed third in the 100-metre freestyle and the 100-metre individual medley events.

Michael Lawrence, age 12, emerged with five top-three finishes, including three silvers. Shane Rock placed second in the 50-metre and 100-metre backstroke events, and found third spot in the 100-metre individual medley.

Rayne Fisher, age 12, collected a bronze medal in the 50-metre breaststroke and placed seventh in the 100-metre individual medley. Kailee Valois, also 12, placed third in the 50-metre butterfly and earned four additional top-eight placements. In the same age category, Sherri Lambkin placed fourth in the 50-metre backstroke and 100-metre individual medley. Celine Gregoire, age 12, found seventh spot in the 50-metre backstroke and the 50-metre butterfly.

Logan Naccarato, age 9, placed sixth in the 50-metre and 100-metre backstroke events. Dante Severini, age 8, was fifth in the 50-metre backstroke. Kristjan Luik, age 12, was fifth in the 50-metre breaststroke and sixth in the 50-metre butterfly.

Other swimmers to earn "best time swims" include Mychael-Anne Francis, Bianca Albidone, Shelby Diotte and Bronte Bourck.

The next competition for SSMAC is the locally hosted Dave Kensit Memorial Regional Short Course Championship February 2-4 at the John Rhodes Community Pool. Racing begins Friday at 6pm.
