CANADA’S NATIONAL MEN’S SUMMER UNDER-18 TEAM FINISHES 4TH AT 2007 MEMORIAL OF IVAN HLINKA

PIESTANY, Slovakia – Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team has finished in 4th place at the 2007 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka after falling 5-4 to Russia in the bronze medal game on Saturday night.

Canada had medaled in three straight summer Under-18 tournaments and had won 10 of the last 11, having won this event in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Canada fought back from a 4-1 third-period deficit against the Russians, getting goals 5:59 apart from Cody Hodgson (Markham, ON/ Brampton, OHL), Tyler Cuma (Bowmanville, ON/ Ottawa, OHL) and Shawn Lalonde (Orleans, ON/ Belleville, OHL) to tie the game 4-4, before allowing the game-winner with less than eight minutes to go.

Hodgson scored a pair of goals, while Canadian captain Steven Stamkos (Unionville, ON/ Sarnia, OHL) and Michael Del Zotto (Stouffville, ON/ Oshawa, OHL) had two assists each.

Peter Delmas (Bedford, NS/ Lewiston, QMJHL) made 33 saves in goal for Canada, which finished with two wins, a loss and a shootout loss at the tournament.
