Eagles, CASS win Husky Invitational

The Sir James Dunn Eagles senior boys basketball team captured the Husky Invitational Basketball Tournament at Central Algoma Secondary School in Desbarats over the weekend with a 48-37 win over Blind River's W.C. Eaket.

The Sir James Dunn Eagles senior boys basketball team captured the Husky Invitational Basketball Tournament at Central Algoma Secondary School in Desbarats over the weekend with a 48-37 win over Blind River's W.C. Eaket.

Meanwhile, the CASS Huskies captured their home tournament in the junior division with a 43-30 victory over Sir James Dunn.

In the senior final, Mark Schildroth paced the Eagles offense with 15 points while Mike Beharriell added 11 points and Austin Kent 10. Juan Vargas led the Royals with 18 points.

CASS captured the consolation final with a 58-51 victory over White Pines. Matt Kirby led the Huskies with 18 points while Mike Davey topped the Wolverines with 18 points.

In junior, the Huskies used 18 points from Corey Myers and 14 from Ryan Hurley to capture the championship over the Eagles. Mark Whitmell led Sir James Dunn with 13 points.

North Bay's Chippewa Secondary beat Eaket 58-34 in the consolation game. Cory Spofford scored 14 points for Chippewa while Shane Buckley had 11 for Eaket.

The local high school basketball league enters the final week of play before the holiday break with games on Tuesday and Thursday.

On Tuesday, White Pines visits Korah, Bawating travels to Sir James Dunn and St. Mary's will host St. Basil. On Thursday, White Pines travels to St. Basil, Sir James Dunn visits St. Mary's and Korah meets Bawating.

Midget games tip-off at 4:15 p.m. followed by the juniors at 6 p.m. and the seniors at 7:30 p.m.
