Eagles slip past Thunderbirds in overtime

Malik Ali scored at 4:23 of overtime to give the Soo (Mich.) Eagles a 3-2 Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League win over the Soo Thunderbirds on Friday night.

Ali finished the night with a goal and an assist for the Eagles, who picked up the win on home ice at Pullar Stadium in the Michigan Sault.

George Orfanos and Caleb Wood also scored for the Eagles.

Eagles goaltender Shane Brancato made 31 saves.

Thunderbirds goaltender Dakota Meyer made 43 saves.

Tyler Savard and Rylan Clemons had a goal and an assist each for the Thunderbirds while Jacob Kovacs assisted on both goals.

The loss drops the Thunderbirds record to 19-12-2-3.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 20-14-1-2.

The Thunderbirds play their final game prior to the Christmas break on Sunday on the road against the Espanola Express.
