Hundreds of fans from across the city packed Rocky DiPietro Field on Friday night as the High School Football League hosted the annual senior division John Chroshuk East/West Classic.
The East, which included Sir James Dunn, St. Mary's and White Pines, defeated the West, represented by St. Basil, Korah and Bawating, 35-27.
After the Sir James Dunn Eagles and St. Basil Saints battled to a 14-14 tie, the St. Mary's Knights put the East ahead to stay with a 21-0 win over the Korah Colts. The Bawating Braves brought the West close with a 13-0 win over the White Pines Wolverines.
Steve Fantin scored a pair of touchdowns for the Saints on runs of 18 yards each while Peter McGonegal and Tyler Brown each scored on a nine yard runs for the Eagles.
For St. Mary's, Jeff Greco scampered for a 43 yard major score, Mark DeVuono hauled in a 37 yard touchdown pass from quarterback John Mullin and Mike Esson added an 18 yard touchdown run.
Dan Vaz scored a pair of touchdowns for the Braves on runs of 12 and two yards.
The regular season opens on Thursday as White Pines meets Sir James Dunn at 7 p.m. On Friday, St. Mary's tackles Bawating and St. Basil plays Korah on Saturday at 1 p.m. All games are at Rocky DiPietro Field.
The junior division will also host an east/west game on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at Bawating.
