The Soo Greyhounds came up on the short end of a defensive struggle in Erie on Saturday night.

With each team limiting the number of shots on goal and each goaltender being credited with a game star, the Erie Otters found enough offense to secure a 3-1 victory over the Hounds.

The loss evens the Hounds record at 1-1 on the three-game road trip and to 3-3 overall after six of seven consecutive games on the road.

The Hounds conclude their lengthy road swing on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. against the Toronto St. Michael's Majors. The team will adjourn following the game for a one week holiday break.

Reg Thomas scored his 11th goal of the season at 12:46 of the first period to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead before Vince Scott scored later in the frame to tie the score at 1-1.

After a scoreless second period, Chris Greene scored the game winner with 4:46 remaining in regulation time. Andrew Sheenan sealed the win with an empty net goal with two seconds remaining.

Kyle Gajewski kicked aside 22 of 24 shots in net for the Greyhounds and was named the game's third star. Jhase Sniderman stopped 18 of 19 Greyhound shots for the Otters and was named the game's second star.

The Greyhounds fell back to the .500 mark at 15-15-5 but maintain a three point lead over the Plymouth Whalers and Windsor Spitfires, although the Whalers hold two games in hand on both clubs.

Following the Christmas break, the Greyhounds begin a homestand on Tuesday, December 28 against the Saginaw Spirit at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.
