It wasn't a good day for the Algoma University Thunderbirds varsity basketball teams.

The Fanshawe Falcons managed to sweep both the men's and women's Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) games held at the George Leach Centre on Saturday afternoon.

In the women's game, Katharine Ford poured in 22 points to lead Fanshawe to a 73-43 victory. Kristin Bolianatz added ten points in the victory. Jessica King led Algoma with 14 points while Melissa Stumpo picked up 12 in a losing cause.

In the men's game, Algoma got off to a slow start in the first half as they fell behind 41-25 at halftime. A strong second half wasn't enough though as the Algoma men dropped an 87-72 decision.

Pat Sewell led all scorers with 24 points while Shane Tingling and Adrian Pytka each added 15 points for the Falcons. Stefon Wilson led Algoma with 18 points while Jason Trinier added 15 points and Mike Harris added 14.

Next action for Algoma will be on Nov. 4 when they visit St. Clair and Nov. 5 when they face Lambton. Next home action for the Thunderbirds will be on Nov. 11 when they host Sheridan at the George Leach Centre in an 8 p.m. start.
