Sault Ste. Marie native Ron Francis made national headlines again on Monday night in the Carolina Hurricanes’ 2-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto.

By scoring Carolina’s game winning goal in the third period of play, Francis surpassed the legendary Maurice “Rocket” Richard for 20th spot on the National Hockey League’s all-time list for career goals scored with 545 goals.

At 40 years of age, Francis has performed to hall of fame levels in his 23-year career. While some speculate that this will be Francis’ last season, the veteran forward isn’t quite ready to make the decision to hang up his skates.
