Sault Athletic Club Produces One Gold and Two Silver at Ontario Track and Field Supermeet

Sault Ste. Marie, ON - Twelve Local Track and Field Athletes Submit Superb Performances at the OTFA Supermeet to Bring Home Seventeen Top-10 Finishes.

The Ontario Track and Field Association Supermeet at York University concluded the 2005 outdoor season for 12 competitors from the Sault Athletic Club.

Local athletes attended the OFSSA caliber meet along with some of the province's best up-and-coming track and field contenders and experienced the thrill of performing in front of Ben Johnson and other high-profile spectators. Dominik Graf led Sault Athletic Club participants taking home both a gold and silver medal.

The brilliant distance runner captured 1st place in the Midget Boys 1500m (4:23.90) while he earned his silver medal as a member of the Juvenile Boys 4 x 800m-relay team. Graf also finished 4th in the Junior Boys 5000m (16:18.07).

Members of the silver medal 4 x 800m-relay team included Graf, Reg Peer, Michael Martens and John Harvey.

Colin Nickel grabbed a silver medal for the Sault Athletic Club with his 2nd place performance in the Junior Boys 3000m Steeple Chase. Nickel also notched a 7th place in the Junior Boys Long Jump.

The Sault's youngest competitor, Thomas Peer, took 4th in the Bantam Boys 1500m (5:00.98) and 6th in the 800m (2:28.31) races while a strong Midget aged contingent featured impressive showings from: Jeffery Tremblay 6th in the 100m (11.95) & 10th in the 200m (24.72), Michael Martens – 8th in the 800m (2:13.62) and Nathan Boulaine – 4th in the Triple Jump (10.28m) & 9th in the 100m Hurdles.

Not to be outdone by their male counterparts, the talented Midget girls received sparkling efforts from Jessica Nanne, who dashed across the finish line to claim 5th place in the 400m (1:02.08) and 6th in the 200m (27.18) while Taylor Corelli placed 10th in the 3000m.

Rounding out the Sault Athletic Clubs' top-10 performances are Mike Wiemer (5th – Juvenile Boys Long Jump) and John Harvey (5th – Juvenile Boys 2000m Steeple Chase). Nick Peters was solid in the Juvenile Boys sprints competing with 40 runners to finish 12th in the 200m (24.02) and 24th 100m (11.85).

The Sault Athletic Club will now take a short break before preparing for the upcoming Cross Country season and the winter indoor track and field season.

A Cross Country Hill Camp weekend will be held on August 26, 27 and 28th at Pancake Bay.
