NEWS RELEASE
LEGION HAP KI DO CLUB
*****************************
After many months of arduous training, fifteen students of the Legion Hap Ki Do Club were put through their paces to check their progress. Most of the test candidates joined our regular class after participating in the Legion Hap Ki Do Anti-Bullying Summer Camp, and it was truly heart warming to see how every single one of these youngsters transformed from being timid and afraid to a wonderful group of strong and confident kids.
The Legion Hap Ki Do instructors congratulate Angela Onken, Matthias Onken, Shelby Onken, and Anakin Onken on passing requirement for green stripe; Shawna and John Boyle for passing to yellow belt, and Kade Boyle, Keegan Boyle, Page Liddiard, Grace McColman, David Williams, Ryan Daye, Liam Watson, Lyla Watson, and Alan Watson to yellow stripe.
The Legion Hap Ki Do students will begin the 2020 winter term on Jan. 6 to prepare for their first martial art tournament at the LSSU Norris Center in early February, while several of their instructors will continue to train hard to participate in the April, 2020 NKMAA International Black Belt test to be held in Crestview, Florida. Black Belts from around the globe will meet at the 2020 Korean Martial Arts Festival to test, with some going for rank as high as ninth degree Black Belt.
The NKMAA International Black Belt promotion banquet will run in conjunction with a special celebration to honour Grandmaster Rudy W. Timmerman’s 70th year of martial arts training, and hundreds of the world’s highest ranking Grandmasters – some from as far away as Korea – will be there to celebrate this milestone of GM Timmerman’s martial arts career. GM Timmerman’s plans are to stop international travel, so he can focus on coaching the Legion Hap Ki Do team and to write a book about his journey in Korean martial arts.
