Greyhounds hang on to beat Spits

The Soo Greyhounds effectively put last Sunday's meltdown at the Steelback Centre out of their minds.

On Thursday night, the Greyhounds scored a third period goal to take the lead and held on for a 3-2 road win over the Windsor Spitfires.

The Greyhounds were looking to recover from an 8-6 loss to Plymouth on Sunday, a game in which the Hounds held leads of 5-0 and 6-2.

Michael Quesnele scored the game winner on the power play at 9:18 of the third period to break a 2-2 tie.

Jordan Nolan gave the Spitfires a 1-0 lead 1:58 into the game before David Kuchejda tied the score with his 22nd goal of the year before the period was out.

The Hounds' Andrew Desjardins and the Spitfires' Richard Greenop traded second period goals. Kyle Gajewski stopped 29 of 31 shots in goal for the win.

Jiri Tlusty, who left Sunday's game with a shoulder injury, was in the lineup Thursday as was defenseman Tyler Cuthbert, who missed two games with a slight concussion.

With the win, the Greyhounds jump into fifth place in the western conference although the Guelph Storm, who trail by two points, hold a game in hand. The Greyhounds sit four points behind Saginaw for the fourth position.

The Greyhounds continue their three-game road trip tomorrow night in London before heading across the border to Saginaw on Sunday afternoon.

Next home action for the Hounds is Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the Saginaw Spirit.
