Greyhounds snap losing streak in Oshawa

The Soo Greyhounds snapped out of a three-game funk with a victory in Oshawa over the Generals on Sunday night.

Three second period goals and the near perfect netminding of Jakub Cech led the Hounds to a 4-1 win to conclude a three-game road trip.

After a scoreless first period, Jeff Carter opened the scoring early in the second period with his 20th goal of the season on the power play. Andrew Gibbons added his first goal as a Greyhound less than two minutes later.

Chris Lawrence capped the second period outburst with a late power play goal. Blair Jarrett scored his 17th of the year into an empty net in the dying seconds.

Brandon McBride spoiled the shutout bid for Cech, who stopped 26 of 27 shots for the win, with a goal with 1:10 remaining in the game.

Jordan Smith assisted on both power play goals for the Hounds, who fired 35 shots at the Oshawa net, while Carter also added a helper.

Carter was named the game's first star while Smith collected second star honours and Cech the third.

The victory moves the Hounds, who improve to 18-21-5-1 for 42 points, back to within three points of the Plymouth Whalers for first place in the Ontario Hockey League's west division and four points ahead of the third place Windsor Spitfires.

The Greyhounds now return home to face the Owen Sound Attack on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.
