High school basketball finals set for Friday

The city boy’s high school basketball finals are set for Friday night at Korah.

Friday’s senior final will see Korah face White Pines in a 7 p.m. start.

Korah, who finished the regular season with a 3-6 record, upset St. Mary’s in semifinal action on Wednesday night.

Titus Martynuck had 15 points and Mike Nicoletta chipped in with 12 as the Colts picked up a last-second 53-52 win over St. Mary’s.

Elijah Suffel led St. Mary’s with 18 points.

Logan Whitmell had 23 points as White Pines beat Superior Heights 67-39 in the other senior semi to advance.

Bishop Whitmell added 18 points for White Pines while Malcolm Boyer had 16 points to lead Superior Heights.

In the junior semifinal games on Wednesday night, White Pines advanced thanks to a 51-36 win over Superior Heights.

Sam Smith had 22 points for White Pines while Grant Rains led Superior Heights with 11 points.

Jacob Brown had 26 points for St. Mary’s in a 62-37 win over Korah.

Ethan Scott had 10 points for the Colts.

Friday’s junior final is slated to begin at 5:15 p.m.

Due to the rotating strikes, dates for the NOSSA playdowns are in the process of being finalized.

To determine Sault Ste. Marie’s other representative in the tournaments, play-in games at both the junior and senior levels are planned for Saturday.

The junior game, which begins at noon, will see Korah face Superior Heights and the senior game will follow at 1:30 p.m. and will see Superior Heights face St. Mary’s.
