Hockey notes: Tryouts open up on three fronts

This week kicks off the new hockey season for a pair of teams. Tuesday night saw the Soo Greyhounds bantam team as well as the Soo Thunder bantams both kick of their tryouts for the 2007-08 season.

This week kicks off the new hockey season for a pair of teams.

Tuesday night saw the Soo Greyhounds bantam team as well as the Soo Thunder bantams both kick of their tryouts for the 2007-08 season. Competing at the minor bantam level this season the Greyhounds were on the ice at the Pee Wee on Tuesday night with a high turnout for their first on-ice tryout. The Thunder, who will be competing in the Northern Ontario Bantam league this year, kicked off their tryouts at the Rhodes, also on Tuesday night.

The Greyhounds continue their tryouts at 3:30 on Wednesday at the Rhodes arena while the Thunder are on the ice at the Pee Wee at 4 p.m.

The Great North Midget League’s Soo North Stars kicked off their tryouts on Tuesday with pre-registration at the Rhodes. The registration continues at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night while the on-ice tryouts begin on Monday at 5 p.m.
