It wasn't the prettiest of wins but the Soo Greyhounds were more than happy to collect a pair of valuable points.

The power play unit clicked with a pair of timely goals to lift the Hounds to a 6-3 win over the Toronto St. Michael's Majors on Saturday night at the Steelback Centre.

With the win, the Hounds move three games over .500 and extend their winning streak to five games. With 46 points, the Greyhounds find themselves within striking distance of sixth place in the western conference.

David Kuchejda and Dustin Jeffrey each led the Hounds attack with a pair goals.

Jeffrey opened the scoring midway through the first period as he tipped Michael Quesnele's point shot past Majors goaltender Chris Carrozzi for his 25th goal of the season.

Majors captain Michael Haley tied the score on a two-on-one pass from local product Matt Caria off a Greyhounds turnover before Hounds captain Cody Thornton scored on a long shot for a 2-1 lead after one period.

In the second period, Kuchejda notched his 10th goal of the season on the power play at 1:54 before St. Mike's answered back minutes later as Caria again set up Haley for his second goal of the night.

Jeffrey's second goal restored a two goal lead for the locals heading to the third period.

The Majors continued to battle back in the third period and pulled to within a goal with 8:10 remaining when Matt Pelech beat Hounds goaltender Matt Hache.

With under five minutes to play, the Greyhounds put away Toronto with Kuchejda's second goal of the night off a tipped shot from Josh Godfrey and Michael Quesnele added another into an empty net.

Quesnele added a pair of assists as did Chris MacKinnon, Godfrey, Thornton and Andrew Desjardins. Hache kicked aside 18 of 21 shots for the win while the Hounds fired 37 shots at the Majors in front of 4,468 fans.

Caria had a strong game for St. Michael's and finished with a pair of helpers.

The Greyhounds' winning streak will be put to the test this week with three tough games on the slate.

On Tuesday, the Hounds visit the Sudbury Wolves before returning to the Steelback Centre to host the Plymouth Whalers on Friday and the London Knights on Saturday. All three games begin at 7:30 p.m.
