A Daniel Lombardi goal in third period proved to be the difference as the Sarnia Sting skated to victory over the Soo Greyhounds on Friday night.

Lombardi connected on the power play for the lone goal of the final frame to break a 4-4 tie and lift the Sting to the 5-4 win in Ontario Hockey League action in Sarnia.

The Greyhounds again struggled on the power play in this contest going one-for-nine with the man advantage while the Sting connected three times on seven opportunities.

Richard Clune scored the lone goal in the first period for the Sting before the teams opened up for seven goals in the second.

Cody Thornton tied the game for the Hounds with his first of the night 44 seconds into the period. Sarnia's Tomas Popisil and Andrew Desjardins of the Hounds then traded goals before the Sting jumped ahead 4-2 on goals by Chad Painchaud and Lombardi's first of the night.

But the Greyhounds responded late in the period as Jason Pitton scored 36 seconds after Lombardi and Thornton notched his second of the game on the power play with 20 seconds remaining in the period to even the score heading to the third period.

Tyler Kennedy recorded three assists for the Greyhounds while Mark Katic set up three more for the Sting.
