The Soo Greyhounds trimmed their roster by one on Monday with the release of overage defenseman Corey LeClair. The move cuts the number of players on the roster to 27 and the number of overage candidates to four. Overages Scott Dobben, who is currently at the Ottawa Senators National Hockey League training camp, Jeff Doyle, Sean Stefanski and local product Ryan MacKay are battling for three overage positions. LeClair was obtained in a trade with Guelph last season and recorded 11 assists in 59 games. The Greyhounds will attempt to trade LeClair to another team. The Greyhounds have three exhibition contests remaining this weekend. The team plays the Windsor Spitfires on Friday and Saturday before visiting the Saginaw Spirit on Sunday afternoon. The team will likely make final cuts after the weekend. "Ideally, we would like to keep 22 players including seven defenseman and 13 forwards. But being up north, we have to worry about keeping extra bodies around in case something happens," said Greyhounds head coach Marty Abrams. The Greyhounds open the regular season against the Ottawa 67's on Friday, September 19 at Memorial Gardens at 7:30 p.m.
