SAULT STE. MARIE, MI -- The Soo Greyhounds had an easy time disposing of the Sudbury Wolves to cap their Ontario Hockey League exhibition schedule.
On Sunday night at the Taffy Abel Arena in the Michigan Sault, the Hounds scored four power play goals and added another short handed to cruise to a 5-1 win.
The Wolves, who were missing some key personnel from their line up, appeared disinterested at times and were outworked by the Hounds for much of the contest.
In the third period, the Greyhounds held the Wolves to a single shot on goal. In total, Hounds goaltender Kyle Gajewski faced just 15 shots.
First round draft pick James Livingston opened the scoring with a short handed goal before Dustin Jeffrey and Michael Quesnele tallied on the power play for a 3-0 lead after one period.
Josh Godfrey and Jacob Lalonde also scored with the man advantage in the third period.
Devin Didiomete notched the lone Sudbury goal in the middle frame.
Jeffrey, Godfrey and Livingston each added an assist while Payton Liske and Matt Lyall set up two goals each.
Tempers between the two teams, who met three times in exhibition play, flared late in the first period after Akim Aliu took a run at Gajewski behind the net.
Aliu, who received a major boarding penalty and a game misconduct, was then jumped by Quesnele, who was tossed for fighting.
It's now time to play for keeps as the OHL regular season schedule begins this week. The Hounds, who open with eight straight games on the road, visit the Kitchener Rangers on Friday before heading to Owen Sound on Saturday.
