The Soo Greyhounds have signed Czech defenceman David Holub.

Selected by the team in the 2024 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft earlier this summer, Holub is coming off a silver medal win at the recently completed Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton.

After Holub's selection in the Import Draft, Greyhounds general manager Kyle Raftis called him "a smooth-skating player who competes like a pit bull."

“We had a lot of plans going into it and we were trying to look at a few different D options,” Raftis added. “Some things were up in the air, but we were excited to get him. He fits in really well with that young group of ‘06s and ‘07s.”

Holub spent the 2023-24 season as captain of HC Ocelari Trinec's U17 team, where he scored five goals and 28 points in 28 regular season games while also scoring a pair of goals and nine points in eight playoff games.

Holub also played for Czechia in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge last season and got into 18 games with Trinec's U20 team.

He will be among 50-plus players attending the Greyhounds training camp, which begins on Aug. 28.
