The Soo Greyhounds seem to be the perfect tonic for the Oshawa Generals.

The struggling Generals picked up their second win of the season, both against the Greyhounds, with a 4-1 decision on Friday night at the Steelback Centre.

For the second time in the homestand, the Greyhounds fell behind as early as local product Dean Howard stuffed his first Ontario Hockey League goal past Hounds goaltender Matt Hache 3:30 into the opening period with the teams playing four-on-four.

Oshawa jumped ahead 2-0 before the halfway point of the period when Brett MacLean beat Hache to the far side. Phenom John Tavares then notched another at 14:11 with a high shot for a 3-0 lead.

Late in the first, the Hounds had a glorious opportunity to get back into the game with a five-on-three power play for two full minutes in a stretch of 5:49 with the man advantage but couldn't muster a goal.

In the second period with Kyle Gajewski in goal for Hache, the Greyhounds found themselves with another two man advantage but a goal post and soild goaltending from Carlo DiRienzo kept the locals off the scoreboard.

Cal Clutterbuck made it 4-0 with 1:02 remaining in the second period on a beautiful individual effort while shorthanded. Clutterbuck went end to end, cut around the defense and roofed a shot over the right shoulder of Gajweski.

In the third period, the Hounds broke DiRienzo's shutout with 3:41 remaining when Brandon MacLean scored his third of the season from Andrew Desjardins and David Kuchejda.

The Hounds outshot the Generals 34-24 in front of 4,475 fans. Tavares took first star honours while DiRienzo was second and Clutterbuck third.

Earlier this season, the Generals defeated the Greyhounds in a shootout in Oshawa.

Further details are being added.
