The Soo Greyhounds are limping home from their final regular season game on the road.

But in the end, the team must be satisfied with a very respectable record away from the confines of the Steelback Centre.

On Sunday afternoon in Plymouth, the Greyhounds fell 6-1 to the Plymouth Whalers but turned in a 17-12-1-4 overall record on the road this season.

With the loss, the Greyhounds sit with 79 points in the western conference standings. In fifth position, the Hounds are three points up on the Guelph Storm, who hold a game in hand, and six points up on the Sarnia Sting, who also have a game in hand.

In Plymouth, the Whalers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first period and then exploded for four goals in the second to take a 5-0 advantage.

Brandon MacLean scored his 18th goal of the year for the Hounds late in the second period before the Whalers added another in the final frame.

Andrew Fournier, Jared Boll, Vern Cooper, Steve Ward, Chris Terry and Kaine Geldart scored for Plymouth.

Kyle Gajewski made the start in net for the Hounds but was pulled after the fifth Plymouth goal in the second period.

The Greyhounds play their final two regular season games this coming weekend at the Steelback Centre against Plymouth on Friday and Sarnia on Saturday. Game times are 7:30 p.m.
