If You Build It…They Might Come

Soo Greyhounds fans who are planning to build their own backyard rink have an added incentive this winter.

The Soo Greyhounds and your local The Home Depot are teaming up to offer outdoor rink makers the chance to face off against members of your Soo Greyhounds in what will undoubtedly be the biggest game on the block this season - and it all takes place right in your own backyard!

To enter The Home Depot Backyard Rink Contest, simply fill out a ballot at your local The Home Depot or MEMORIAL GARDENS. The contest opens WEDNESDAY JANUARY 4TH and closes MONDAY FEBRUARY 20TH, 2006). The winner will be announced at the FRIDAY FEBRUARY 24TH SOO GREYHOUND GAME SPONSORED BY HOME DEPOT.

So pull out your jerseys and tape up your sticks because you never know who might be stopping by for a game of shinny this season.

To ensure you make the most of your home ice advantage, visit your local The Home Depot store for tips on how to build an outdoor rink.

Tips on How to Build Your Backyard Rink

Tip #1 – Sweep the ice around the perimeter of your rink with a corn broom to prevent a ridge from building up

Tip #2 – When using a tarp under your ice surface, it should be approximately 2' longer and 2' wider than the actual size of your rink

Tip #3 – Fill the cracks in the ice with snow instead of water. This prevents the water from seeping through the cracks and thawing the surface beneath, creating shell ice.
