Indians back in second in tight NOJHL

A pair of weekend road wins has vaulted the Soo Indians into second place in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League. After trimming the Blind River Beavers 4-1 on Saturday night, the Indians cuffed the Soo Thunderbirds 7-2 on Sunday evening. Ky Moje scored twice and Nick Zilka added two assists in support of the solid goaltending of Elliott Hogue in the Indians' win at Blind River. Then, after a scoreless first period on Sunday, the Indians scored four straight goals to start the second and virtually coasted to the 7-2 romp over the crossriver Thunderbirds. Dave Taylor fired two goals for the Indians and solo tallies were registered by Zilka, Moje, James Ciotti. Sean Farley and Chris Cooper. Brennan Poderzay got the win in the Indians' net. With the sweep, the Indians now have 24 points from a 12-8 record. Defending champion Sudbury Kal Tire Junior Wolves leads the standings with 28 points from a 13-5-2 record. After playing at Sudbury on Wednesday night, the Indians return to Big Bear Arena to play the Abitibi Eskimos on Friday night at 7 p.m. Abitibi, which is 10-2-1 in its last 13 outings after beginning the season 0-5-2, has gone on its surge since acquiring goalie Miles Williams -- a Michigan Soo native -- from Traverse City of the North American Hockey League. With 23 points, third-place Abitibi trails the Indians by just one point.
