Indians home to T-Birds in crossborder showdown The Carmen Provenzano Memorial Cup series begins play Sunday evening when the Soo Indians play host to the Soo Thunderbirds in the first meeting of the '06-07 Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League season between the crossborder rivals. Game time is 7 p.m. at Big Bear Arena. The Thunderbirds and Indians will play eight regular season games against each other and the Provenzano Cup will be awarded to the winner. The Provenzano Cup honours the late Carmen Provenzano, a former Soo, Ontario politician who passed away in July of 2005. A well-known hockey fanatic, the late Mr. Provenzano's son, Frank, is the assistant general manager of the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League. The Indians enter play this week tied for second place in the NOJHL standings with 14 points from a 7-4 record. The Thunderbirds are 5-2 and have four games in hand on the Indians. Sunday's game with the Thunderbirds will be the Indians' second game of the weekend. Manitoulin will play the Indians on Saturday night at 7:00 at Big Bear Arena. Admission to all Indians' home games is $5.
