It was a disappointing end to the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier for Brad Jacobs on Sunday.

After going 9-2 during round robin action, the Jacobs rink, which includes third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden, lead Ryan Harnden and fifth Lee Toner, dropped a 5-4 decision to Brendan Bottcher on Sunday afternoon in semifinal action.

Trailing 4-3 through nine ends, Bottcher made a triple-tap raise to score two and pick up the win and a spot in the tournament final against Alberta’s Kevin Koe.

“We had our opportunities,” Jacobs told Curling.ca. “It was a great back-and-forth game.”

Jacobs called the 2019 tournament something the team can learn from going forward.

“It’s hard to be too disappointed,” Jacobs said. “Obviously we are disappointed that we’re not playing in the final, but I’m really proud of the guys for the way they played all week. We’re going to take this experience and learn from it and come out stronger.”

This marks the second straight year Bottcher has advanced to the tournament final.

Last year, representing Alberta, Bottcher lost to Brad Gushue in the final.
