Brad Jacobs will look to put himself in good position to earn a playoff spot at the Stu Sells Tankard in Toronto.

The Sault-based curling team comprised of Jacobs at skip, third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden dropped a tough 5-4 decision to Winnipeg’s Jason Gunnlagson at the event on Friday but sits at 1-1 in the triple-knockout event.

After Jacobs stole a single in the seventh end to take a 4-3 lead, Gunnlaugson scored a pair in the eighth end to pick up the win and remain in the A group.

As part of the triple knockout format, teams that lose in the A group are dropped into the B group while a second loss drops teams further into the C group.

The format eventually leads to a pair of teams in each of the top two groups and four teams from the C group moving onto the playoff round, which begins on Sunday morning and runs into Monday with the semifinal and championship.

Jacobs will resume action on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. against Saskatoon’s Kirk Muyres.
