Jacobs perfect heading into round robin finale

Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs will head into the final day of round robin action at the 2020 Northern Ontario Curling Association provincials in New Liskeard with a 6-0 record.

The Jacobs rink, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, secured a pair of wins on Friday.

Jacobs opened the day with an 8-3 win in seven ends over Sandy MacEwan of Curl Sudbury in a battle between unbeaten teams.

Jacobs opened the scoring with a pair in the opening end.

After MacEwan got on the board with a single in the second end, Jacobs took a 4-1 lead with two more in the third.

MacEwan scored one in the fourth end, only to see the scoring trend continue with Jacobs adding two more in the fifth and two in the seventh after MacEwan scored a single in the sixth.

In the evening draw, Jacobs picked up a 9-2 win over Jeffrey Brown of the North Bay Granite Curling Club in six ends.

The teams traded singles in the opening two ends with Jacobs picking up a steal of one in the opening end before Brown scores one with the hammer in the second end.

The Jacobs rink would take the lead in the third end with three.

After Brown cut the lead to 4-2 with a single in the fourth end, Jacobs proceeded to break the game open with five in the fifth end.

The Jacobs rink wraps up round robin action on Friday afternoon against Jordan Chandler, who splits between the Little Current Curling Club in Little Current and the Port Arthur Curling Club in Thunder Bay.

Nick Lemieux, also of Sault Ste. Marie, opened action on Friday with a 9-4 loss against Mike Badiuk of the Geraldton Curling Club.

After blanking the opening end, Lemieux opened the scoring with two in the second end.

Badiuk then took a 4-2 lead by scoring three with the hammer in the third and stealing one more in the fourth.

Lemieux tied the game with two more in the fifth end.

After blanking the sixth and seventh ends, Badiuk took a 6-4 lead with two in the eighth end before sealing the win with a steal of three in the ninth end.

Lemieux ended the day with an 8-2 loss in five ends against Charlie Robert, also based out of Sault Ste. Marie.

With Lemieux leading 2-1 through two ends, Robert blanked the third end before taking the lead for good with three in the fourth end.

Robert then sealed the win with a steal of four in the fifth end.

The Lemieux rink, which includes third Jacob Reid, second Andrew Berg, and lead Dan Lemieux, wraps up round robin action on Saturday afternoon Ryan Sayer of the Horne Granite Curling Club in New Liskeard.
