Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs will need a pair of wins on Sunday to advance to the playoff round at the 2019 Stu Sells Tankard in Toronto.

The Jacobs rink, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, split a pair of games on Saturday in the triple knockout event. That dropped the Sault-based curling team to the C group in the event, which includes teams with two losses.

Jacobs will face Wayne Tuck Jr. on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

A pair of Sunday wins would put the Jacobs rink into the playoff round.

On Saturday, Jacobs dropped an 8-7 decision in an extra end against Calgary’s Kevin Koe to drop to 2-2 at the event.

With the hammer to start, Koe scored a pair in the opening end to take an early lead.

After Jacobs tied things at two with a pair of his own in the third end, Koe took a 4-2 lead with a single in the fourth and then a steal of one in the fifth.

After Jacobs took the lead with four in the sixth, Koe took a 7-6 lead with three in the seventh. Jacobs forced the extra end with a single in the eighth end.

Earlier in the day, Jacobs picked up a 6-1 win over Saskatoon’s Kirk Muyres in four ends.

The teams traded singles in the opening two ends before Jacobs scored three in the third end before stealing two more in the fourth end to seal the win.
