Jr. Cougars win gold in Hamilton

The Sault Junior Cougars Girls Major Bantam team won the gold medal in the 'B' section at the Blessed Sacrament Basketball Tournament in Hamilton last weekend. The Cougars finished the five-game tourney with a 3-2 record.

The Sault Junior Cougars Girls Major Bantam team won the gold medal in the 'B' section at the Blessed Sacrament Basketball Tournament in Hamilton last weekend.

The Cougars finished the five-game tourney with a 3-2 record.

In the B final, Melanie Thorburn dropped in eight points and Samantha Hunt seven in a 41-33 win over the Huron Lakers.

The locals advanced with a 37-29 win over the Cambridge Centaurs as Hunt and Breanna Denneny scored eight points each. Lauren Speakman chipped in seven points.

In the preliminary games, Hunt scored five points in a 25-9 loss to the Pelham Panthers before scoring seven in a 39-26 win over Huron. Kristine Dovigi and Julia MacDonald added six points each in the victory. Taylor Wright led the Cougars with five points in a 44-25 setback to the Ancaster Magic.
