Jr. Greyhounds pick up two wins on the road

The locals picked up wins over New Liskeard and TImmins in weekend action

What was supposed to be a three-game road trip for the Soo Jr. Greyhounds turned into two as the team wrapped up the pre-Christmas portion of its Great North Midget League schedule.

On Friday night, the Jr. Greyhounds opened the weekend with a 7-4 win over the New Liskeard Cubs.

Devin Mauro had two goals and two assists for the Jr. Greyhounds while Stephen Pszeniczny had two goals and an assist.

Michael Chaffay also had a four-point night for the Jr. Greyhounds with a goal and three assists.

Gavin Ritacco and Mason Chitaroni also scored for the Jr. Greyhounds.

Tyson Bradford led New Liskeard with a goal and two assists.

Braedon Dorrell had a goal and an assist while Benjamin White and Jackson Buffam also scored for the Cubs.

On Saturday, the Jr. Greyhounds picked up a 6-5 shootout win over the Timmins Majors.

Esposito had the shootout winner for the Jr. Greyhounds and added two goals and an assist in regulation time.

Esposito assisted on the game-tying goal, which came off the stick of Michael Beltrano in the final seconds of the third period. Beltrano scored with three seconds to go in regulation time, capping off a three-goal third period for the Jr. Greyhounds.

Pszeniczny and Chaffay had the other goals for the Jr. Greyhounds.

Mason Wesley had a pair of goals for Timmins.

Jesse Dupuis, Sebastien Sutherland, and Nolan Ring also scored for Timmins.

Gavin Martel, Landon Deforge, and Jeremy Jeffries assisted on two goals each for the Majors.

Scheduled to wrap up the trip on Sunday against the Kapuskasing Flyers, the game was cancelled due to a power outage.

The Jr. Greyhounds return to regular season action on Dec. 29 on the road against the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves.
