Junior Greyhounds return to league action with road wins

On the road for a pair of games in Sudbury, it was a successful weekend for the GNML's Soo Jr. Greyhounds

After an extended stretch between regular season games, the Soo Jr. Greyhounds AAA midget team returned to Great North Midget League action over the weekend with a pair of games on the road in Sudbury.

On Saturday night, Michael Chaffay had a pair of goals in the second period to help the Jr. Greyhounds to a 4-2 win over the Sudbury Wolves minor midgets.

Chaffay’s goals helped turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead en route to the win.

Dylan Szabo and Ty Zachary also scored for the Jr. Greyhounds.

Atley Gringorten and Brayden Lafrance scored for Sudbury.

On Sunday, the Jr. Greyhounds capped off the weekend with a 5-3 win over the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves.

Ethan Esposito paced the Jr. Greyhounds with two goals and an assist.

Calem Mangone also had a three-point night with a goal and two assists.

Adam Barone and Devin Mauro chipped in with a goal and an assist each for the Jr. Greyhounds.

Rowan Mullin-Santone had a goal and an assist while Jimmy Blanchard and Pierson Sobush also scored for Sudbury.

The weekend wins improve the Jr. Greyhounds record to 21-4-0-2.

The Jr. Greyhounds return to action on Feb. 7 on the road against the New Liskeard Cubs in the first game of a three-game trip that will also see the team play a pair of games against the Kapuskasing Flyers.
