Karate kids: Local martial artists qualify for world championship in Portugal

Two local youngsters have qualified and will represent Team Canada in the World Karate Commission (WKC) World Championship in Europe this fall. 

This past weekend in Ottawa, Jase and Brooke Irwin competed in a martial arts competition against competitors from across Canada in the national tryouts for Team Canada, according to a release.

Jase, 9, received a gold medal in continuous sparring, and received a silver medal in Korean forms. Sister Brooke, 11, received a silver medal in Korean forms earning them both spots on Team Canada. 

The kids will travel with the rest of Team Canada to Portugal at the end of October for the WKC World Championship. 

A special thank-you went out to their coaches Tina Fuller (Black Dragon Martial Arts), Coach Wendy (Koong Joong Mu Sool), and all other KJMS coaches.
