The Knights, the defending city, NOSSA and Central Bowl champions, extended their record to a perfect 4-0 and have a strangle hold on first place in the high school football league senior division standings. St. Basil sits at 0-3-1. After an evenly played first half, the Knights dominated the second half with four unanswered touchdowns to pull away to victory at a muddy Rocky DiPietro Field. Kayvon Fatemazadeh put St. Mary's ahead 6-0 in the first quarter on a 37 yard run before St. Basil took the lead early in the second quarter when Justin Carter hauled in a 16 yard touchdown reception from quarterback Peter Macnamara. Frank Caputo added the convert to give the Saints a 7-6 lead. Fatemazadeh later put the Knights ahead 12-7 at the half with an eight-yard run. The Knights missed the two-point conversion. The Knights offensive attack emerged in the second half as Kyle Dugas on a 29 yard reception from quarterback Anthony Amadio, Dan Esson on a two yard run, junior call-up Andrew Baziuk on a 48 yard run and Chris Lebel on a one yard plunge all scored touchdowns for the Knights. Andrew Posteraro kicked two converts and Lebel ran for a two point conversion on Esson's major. Fatemazadeh led all rushers with 91 yards on 15 carries, Lebel added 52 yards on six carries while Esson and Baziuk rushed for 47 yards each. Amadio completed four of six passes for 127 yards with Dugas catching three balls for 106 yards. Mark Thorburn made six tackles for the St. Mary's defense while Aaron Amadio, with a sack and Kevin Nanne added 4.5 tackles each. Joe Eshkibok added two quarterback sacks and two tackles, Jason Gurvich recorded four tackles and an interception and Joey Thorburn made an interception. The Saints, which were held to 64 yards of offense, were led by Jeff Ianni's 31 yards rushing. Chuck Belkosky made 6.5 tackles for the Saints defense while Nick Vorlicek made 5.5 tackles and Mike Jurich five. Jake Rebellato added an interception. In junior action between unbeaten teams on Saturday morning, Baziuk on an 80 yard run and Jon Mullin scored touchdowns to lead St. Mary's past St.Basil 14-0. *** EXTRA POINTS: * PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Korah running back Pat Koski was selected as the offensive player of the week in the senior division for his 126 yard rushing and one touchdown effort in Thursday's 22-6 Colts win over Bawating. White Pines' Noah Rushon was named defensive player of the week with eight tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception in a Wolverines 14-6 loss to Sir James Dunn. The weekly awards are sponsored by the Sault Steelers and Sault Sabercats football clubs. * UPCOMING: The final week of the regular season begins on Thursday as St. Basil meets Sir James Dunn in the senior division at 7:30 p.m. A double header is scheduled Friday as Bawating tackles St. Mary's at 4 p.m. and White Pines meets Korah at 7:30 p.m. All games are played at Rocky DiPietro Field.
