Knights use late-game push to beat Wolverines (3 photos)

St. Mary's led early but needed three touchdowns in the third quarter to break the game open against White Pines

The St. Mary’s Knights needed a late-game push on Thursday evening in junior high school football action.

The Knights scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to break open a tight game in what was eventually a 31-3 win over White Pines at Superior Heights.

The Knights trailed early in the second quarter after a 19-yard field goal by White Pines’ Sam Smith in the opening minute of the quarter and led just 6-3 at the half before picking up the win to finish regular season action with a 2-4 record.

Matthew Malcolm and Adam Morgenstern had two touchdowns each for the Knights in the victory.

Morgenstern, who finished the day with 124 yards rushing on 19 carries, had touchdown runs of three and four yards in the game.

Malcolm, who ran the ball 13 times for 112 yards, had runs of five and 10 yards for touchdowns.

Seamus Parlow also had a touchdown run for the Knights, scampering in from 16 yards out.

Kyle Scarfone caught five passes for 61 yards for the Knights.

Defensively for St. Mary’s, Kevin Elie had eight tackles and a sack.

Josh Boyer ran the ball nine times for the Wolverines, running for 26 yards. Boyer also had nine tackles and an assisted tackle defensively.

Dylan Knittle had eight tackles for White Pines while Gibson had five and a sack.

The high school football regular season wraps up on Friday night as Korah faces Superior Heights at Superior Heights. The junior game kicks off at 4:45 p.m. with the senior game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
