Laker hockey season concludes in WCHA playoffs

Playing a best-of-3 series against Bemidji State. the Lakers fell in game three on Sunday night on the road

The 2019-20 Western Collegiate Hockey Association season game to an end for the Lake Superior State Lakers on Sunday night.

Facing the Bemidji State Beavers in the road in the opening round of the WCHA playoffs, the Lakers fell in three games.

In the opener on Friday, goaltender Zach Driscoll made 27 saves as Bemidji blanked Lake State 2-0.

Adam Brady’s goal 3:07 into the game held up as the game-winning goal.

Owen Sillinger also scored for Bemidji State.

Lakers goaltender Mareks Mitens made 33 saves.

Facing elimination in game two, the Lakers rebounded for a 5-3 win to force a third game.

Max Humitz scored a pair of goals for the Lakers while Will Riedell and Ashton Calder assisted on a pair of goals each.

Bryan Basilico. Miroslav Mucha, and Hampus Eriksson also scored for Lake State.

Mitens made 45 saves for the Lakers.

Alex Ierullo had a goal and an assist for Bemidji State.

Alex Adams and Elias Rosen also scored for the Beavers.

Sillinger assisted on a pair of goals.

Driscoll stopped 24 shots.

In Sunday’s third game, a power play goal by Brady in the second period was the winning goal as Bemidji State won the series thanks to a 3-1 win.

Sillinger and Ethan Somoza had the other goals for the Beavers.

Driscoll made 25 saves.

Humitz, playing his final game as a Laker, had the lone Lake State goal.

Mitens made 33 saves.
