Lakers split final regular season series at home

The Lakers will wrap up the regular season next weekend on the road

The Lake Superior State Lakers hockey team wrapped up the home portion of their Western Collegiate Hockey Association conference schedule with a pair of weekend games against the Northern Michigan Wildcats.

After picking up a win on Friday night at Taffy Abel Arena, the Lakers settled for a split after a Saturday night loss.

On Friday night, Max Humitz had a pair of goals as the Lakers opened the weekend with a 6-1 win.

Pierre-Luc Veillette chipped in with a goal and two assists for Lake State while Brendan McKay had a goal and an assist.

Jacob Nordqvist and Louis Boudon assisted on a pair of goals for the Lakers.

Ashton Calder and Bryan Basilico also scored for Lake State.

Goaltender Mareks Mitens stopped 25 shots for the Lakers.

Luke Voltin had the lone goal for Northern Michigan.

Nolan Kent got the start in goal for Northern Michigan but left the game midway through the opening period after stopping nine of 11 shots. John Hawthorne stopped 18 shots the rest of the way.

On Saturday night, Joseph Nardi scored twice as Northern Michigan picked up the split with a 5-1 win.

Voltin, Mitchell Slattery, and Griffin Loughran had the other goals for the Wildcats.

Kent made 31 saves for Northern Michigan.

Mitens made 25 saves for Lake State.

Boudon had the lone Lakers goal.

Lake State wraps up regular season action next weekend with a pair of games as Ferris State. The weekend series opens on Friday night.
