The Lake Superior State university hockey team will head into the Christmas break on the heels of a split with nationally ranked Bowling Green.
The Lakers dropped a tight 2-0 decision on Friday night before securing a 3-2 overtime win on Saturday night in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action at Taffy Abel Arena.
On Friday night, a power play goal by Max Johnson in the second period was the difference for Bowling Green.
Cameron Wright sealed the win with an empty net goal in the final minute of regulation time.
Bowling Green goaltender Eric Dop made 26 saves for the shutout.
Lake Superior State goaltender Mareks Mitens made 35 saves.
On Saturday night, Hampus Eriksson was the hero for Lake State.
The junior forward took a pass from Brayden Gelsinger and beat Dop from the slot 1:38 into overtime to give the Lakers a 3-2 win.
Max Humitz had a pair of goals for Lake State, including the tying goal midway through the third period.
Mitens was sharp again for the Lakers, making 29 saves.
Dop made 23 saves for Bowling Green.
Connor Ford and Alex Barber had a goal and an assist each for Bowling Green.
The Lakers return to action on Dec. 28 against Providence. The game is the first of two games for Lake State in the Catamount Cup in Burlington, Vt.
