The upside is both Sault Sabercats remain unbeaten in Ontario Football Conference action.

The downside is neither team completed a game on Saturday and will return home with ties.

Storms in the region forced the cancellation of the JV Sabercats game in Chatham against the Cougars.

Slated to be a 4 p.m. kickoff, the game never got started due to lightning in the area and officially goes down as a 6-6 tie.

The JV Sabercats entered the weekend on the heels of a pair of victories to open the season, beating Oakville in the opening week of the season at home before beating Sarnia on the road last weekend.

The Cougars also entered Saturday’s JV matchup with a 2-0 record.

The varsity Sabercats did get some game action in before the lightning returned, taking a 7-0 lead over Chatham before their game suffered a fate similar to the JV game.

Lightning forced a pair of delays in the contest before it was eventually called off.

Both Sabercats teams will return home next weekend for games at Superior Heights.

The JV team will take on the Brantford Bisons at 1 p.m. with the varsity team facing the Hamilton Hurricanes at 4 p.m.

In Northern Football Conference action on Saturday night, the Sault Steelers got into the win column thanks to a 16-0 win on the road in Oakville over the Longhorns.

The Steelers improve to 1-1 with the victory while Oakville drops to 0-2.

The Steelers return home for action next weekend. The team is set to face the Sudbury Spartans in a 7 p.m. kickoff at Rocky DiPietro Field.
