In Ontario Basketball Association action from last week:

*** The Sault Sharks Juvenile Girls team claimed the silver medal at the 12-team Huron Lakers Juvenile A/AA tournament.

In the locals' sixth game of the tournament and the gold medal game, the Windsor Saints edged the Sharks 35-25. Kira Favaro led the Sharks with eight points in the championship game while Adrianna Bruni and Kathleen Thorburn added four points each.

In the semi-finals, Thorburn tossed in 14 points to lead the Sharks past Sarnia St. Clair 45-39. Bridgit Hindermeier added six points and Laura Clement five. In a quarterfinal thriller, the Sharks edged the Chatham-Kent Wildcats 44-43 as Jaclyn Cummings drained 11 points and Hindermeier 10. Brittany Denneny and Favaro added six points each.

In preliminary games, the Sharks opened with a 37-32 win over the London 86'ers as Thorburn led with 13 while Denneny added eight and Bruni five. Denneny then added eight more points and Bruni chipped in seven in a 36-29 loss to St. Clair. In the third game, Favaro popped 18 points in a 62-21 win over the Petrolia Lancers. Denneny added nine points, Brittany Hogan eight and Bruni seven.

*** The Sault Sharks Major Bantam boys team finished fourth in an eight-team tournament.

The Sharks fell 51-46 to the Caledon Cougars in the bronze medal game as Matt Thibeault scored 13 points to lead the Sharks. The Sharks were forced into the bronze medal game after a close 50-49 loss to the Dundas Dynamo. Devon Fortino scored 16 points for the locals while Jeff Llyod added seven.

In earlier games, Thibeault scored 16 points and Fortino 13 in a 53-23 win over Brantford CYO. Thibeault and Fortino then combined for 20 and 13 points, respectively, in a 46-41 win over the Strathroy Jammers. Fortino led with 14 points and Thibeault added 12 in a 60-49 loss to the Ingersol Bombers.

*** The Sault Junior Cougars midget team won the consolation championship at the Cambridge Centaurs Tournament.

The Cougars defeated the Georgetown Hoyas 63-53 in the final with Tom Campana pacing the locals with 23 points and Josh Martella adding 22. In the semi-final, Martella drained 42 points and Seth Whitley added 14 in a huge 74-47 win over the Toronto Force.
