Local martial arts group brings home some hardware

Legion Hapkido participated in the Straights Area Tae Kwon Do and MUTT MMA tournament in Cheboygan, Michigan on Saturday

A local martial arts group is celebrating after a road trip to Northern Michigan this weekend.

Legion Hapkido participated in the Straights Area Tae Kwon Do and MUTT MMA tournament in Cheboygan this past Saturday and racked up the following honours:

  • Madison Beriault-Farrell - Intermediate Division - Silver weapons, Bronze forms,  Silver Point Sparring,  Silver Continuous Sparring
  • Zoe Mathieu-Perks - Intermediate Division -  Bronze weapons, Gold Continuous Sparring
  • Julianna Augustin - Intermediate Division -  Gold Forms,  Bronze Point Sparring
  • Steven Jensen - Mens Adult Division -  Bronze Weapons
  • Theresa Jensen of sister school Koong Joong Mu Sool -  Bronze Weapons

Legion Hapkido – which operates out of the new Legion Branch 25 building – aims to provide affordable martial arts training to youth in the community.   

It was founded by Coach Rudy W. Timmerman, who was recently awarded the Masami Tsuruoka Lifetime Achievement Award at the Canadian Black Belt Hall Of Fame, and inducted into the Sault Ste. Marie Sports Hall of Fame for his decades of contribution to the city.
