Local skiers punch ticket to provincial competition

Sixteen local downhill skiers have qualified to be part of the Northern Ontario Division team during the upcoming provincials in Collingwood and Mont St. Marie later this month.

Participating Searchmont Ski Runners include Maelle Acton, Andra (Andi) Annett, Teagan Derbyshire, Maggie Hendrie, Maelee Lesnick, Daniel Fraser, Reid Gordon, Lucas McMaster, Bobby Real, Elinor Bateman, Ella Filice, Lara Fraser, Cathryn Porpealia, Katelyn Real, Malaya Schikofsky, Blake Cond, Emmett Kreps and Landon Phillips.

The Searchmont Ski Runners (SSR) U8 – U12 athletes competed at the Joe Sarich Classic in Elliot Lake this weekend. 124 racers competed in the Giant Slalom and Slalom in the two-day annual event, with SSR bringing home medals in almost every category. 

Giant Slalom:

U8 Women

• 2nd – Khloe Real (Silver)
• 9th – Sofia Beaumont

U10 Women

• 1st – Zara Faganely-Yarema (Gold)
• 4th – Ainsley Michel

U12 Women

• 1st – Kassandra Real (Gold)
• 2nd – Leona Orlando (Silver)

SSR is also very proud to have 16 U14 and U16 athletes qualify for provincials and make up part of the Northern Ontario Division team this year. They will be travelling to Collingwood and Mont St. Marie, respectively, later this month.
