Sault Athletic Club Competes at LSSU High School Track and Field Meet

Six Local Track and Field Athletes Meet State Championship Qualifying Standards While Competing in the Michigan Sault

Fifteen competitors from the Sault Athletic Club participated in the indoor High School track and field meet hosted by Lake Superior State University on January 26th.

The meet was the first in a series of three scheduled at the Arbuckle Student Activity Center and is a Michigan Indoor Track Series qualifier for the Michigan State Championships.

The State Championships will be held at the University of Michigan in mid-March.

Jessica Nanne turned in a solid performance collecting 3 first-place finishes in the 55-metre, 200-metre and 400-metre sprints while qualifying for the state championships in the both the 55m and 400m events.

Impressive first-place efforts from Christine Thomas (800-metres), Rhiannon Johns (3200-metres) and Sarah Fortais (55-metre hurdles) also enabled them to meet qualifying times for the Michigan State Championships.

Nick Peters and Jeff Tremblay finished 2nd and 4th respectively in the men's 55-metre dash also meeting qualifying standards.

Other competitor results include: Pascal Burton (2nd 400m, 2nd 800m, 7th 200m), Sarah Fortais (2nd 200m, 3rd 200m), Adam Fortais (3rd 800m, 4th 1600m, 9th 200m), Heather Gordon (2nd 800m, 4th 400m), John Harvey (2nd 1600m, 2nd 3200m), Angela Hewgill (3rd 200m), Sara Muncaster (2nd 400m, 3rd 800m), Thomas Peer (4th 400m, 4th 800m, 6th 1600m, 8th 200m), Nick Peters (3rd 200m), Theo Teodossiou (6th 55m, 6th 200m), Jesse Wetzl (5th 55m, 5th 200m).

The Sault Athletic Club is training hard and will attend a number of indoor track and field meets over the next two months.

On the calendar for the local track club are the Upper Peninsula NCAA Championships at LSSU, the Ontario Royal Canadian Legion Indoor Track and Field Championships in Toronto and the Ontario Track and Field Indoor Championships along with 2 more LSSU High School meets.
