The Soo Black Sox midget baseball team currently sits at 3-0 in Thunder Bay after a pair of wins on Saturday.
After defeated the Thunder Bay Mountain Hawks 3-1 on Friday, the Black Sox defeated the Thunder Bay Titans 15-0 and Ham Lake, Minnesota 3-0 on Saturday.
In the early game, Tyler Wilson gave up three singles while striking out four in five innings. Offensively, Rico Castro, who spent this season with the EUP Travelers but made the trip with the Black Sox for this tournament, stroked three singles and knocked in five runs. Kyle Diotte knocked in a pair of runs on a pair of singles. Ryan McDonald and Nick Moon also chipped in with three hits each.
The late game saw Andrew Toni pitch the complete game shutout. Toni had just two baserunners in seven innings, giving up two singles. Toni used just 63 pitches in the win and struck out five. McDonald broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning when he stroked a triple down the right field line that scored Moon. A sacrifice fly by Castro to centre scored McDonald. Moon singled in the sixth to knock in Toni for the third Black Sox run.
The Black Sox now face the North West Slam in their final round robin game on Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. The tournament championship will be played shortly after its conclusion.
