The summer football season in Sault Ste. Marie is not quite over despite the fact that both the Sault Storm and Sault Sabercats have missed out on playoff spots in their respective leagues. It's been a disappointing season for the Storm, which will miss the Northern Football Conference playoffs. Despite a promising first season in the Ontario Varsity Football League, the Sabercats will not make the playoffs. But there are showdowns looming in both the tyke and bantam divisions of the Sault Minor Football Association as championships will be decided Saturday night at Rocky DiPietro Field. At 6 p.m. Saturday, Sports Gold will play Rome's for the tyke division title. Immediately following, at about 7:30 p.m., All Star Trophies will play Blueliners Lounge for the bantam crown. Rome's earned its ways into Saturday's tyke final with a 21-14 semi-final win over the Verdi Lodge on the strength of a two-touchdown effort from Kyle Mammarella. Sports Gold, meanwhile, won the other semi with a 21-3 win over the Tin Grins as Todd Wagner had a pair of TDs. In the bantam semis, Cody Reville's two touchdowns sparked All Star Trophies past Scholars Learning Centre 54-0. And Blueliners got its ticket into Saturday's final with a 12-7 win over the Firefighters, with Graham Imre scoring both TDs.
